Sunday Mornings at Compass

Compass Classroom exists to equip the body of Christ to reach, teach, and train others to the glory of God.

Compass Classroom classes are additional opportunities for instruction in God’s Word. We invite everyone to attend a class each Sunday morning at Compass. They are free to attend, topical in nature, and function more like an interactive lecture than a traditional Sunday sermon.

Four paths of study are designed to teach and train both heart and mind in a cumulative fashion. Follow one path until completion of Core classes, or mix and match as fits your interest and availability.

  • A.W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Studying the nature of God is foundational to growing in our walk with God. We will provide classes that study who God is as revealed through His Scriptures.

  • We know from 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that God has spoken, breathing His Word through the authors of Scripture so that we might hear from Him and be equipped to live a mature Christian life. We will provide classes that study the Holy Scriptures so that everyone will be equipped for every good work.

  • There are skills that every Christian should master so that they are the most useful to the Lord. We will provide classes taught by wise counselors who will show us how to practically apply Scripture to areas such as marriage, parenting, financial stewardship, etc.

  • The church will run at full strength when there are many well-trained ministry leaders. Our eighth distinctive is, “We will always be working to plant new churches,” which means we will always need to provide classes that train congregants for biblical Christian leadership.

grace alone: the doctrine of salvation

In this class, we’ll peer into the mind of God to see how he designed and accomplished salvation, and how he applies it to mankind. Prepare to be edified and sharpened! We’ll unpack from the Scriptures the atonement of Christ, the meaning of ‘election’, the sequence of conversion, and the particulars of justification, sanctification, and perseverance of the saints, explore the coming glorification of all believers, and much more. 

building a biblical marriage

Whether you have been married for a few years or several decades, it’s important to keep building your marriage on a biblical foundation. Perhaps you know what the Bible says about marriage, and you need to be reminded as you seek to have a better marriage. Or perhaps you’ve never thought about what the Bible says pertaining to marriage, and this is your chance to calibrate your marriage to God’s Word.

old testament Writings: ancient truths for modern hope

We often struggle to understand what the Old Testament books known as the “Writings” are saying, what they mean, and what (if any) significance they have for our lives. Join us as we seek to discover ancient truths held within the pages of the Old Testament writings that are intended to bring us fresh hope as we submit to their instructions. Old Testament Writings include the Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, and more.

Men’s Ministry Track

The Men’s Ministry Track of Compass Classroom is an intense training program for men who desire to be leaders in the church. Whether pursuing full-time ministry or seeking to improve your current service, this set of courses is designed to strengthen and sharpen you for greater service to the Lord. Over the course of two years, we will cover the topics of Character, Theology, Leadership, and Teaching.

This track is organized in 4-month semesters and can be joined at the beginning of any semester (September and January).

An application and interview with a pastor is required to join this program.

Biblical Counseling Fundamentals track

This training track will equip individuals to counsel others at Compass with the Word of God. The material will explore the most critical doctrines and practices associated with Biblical Counseling. This training will be accomplished through 30 hours of class time and assignments completed throughout the track. By taking this course, there is no guarantee that the student will be assigned counseling cases at CBCTV; however, the goal is to equip each student to do so.

This class begins annually in September or January, depending on various factors. Current class began in Sept. 2024 and will complete in May 2025. No late additions to the class will be accepted.
